Free Performance of 'Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write' at UTC Nov 11

From a media release:

“Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write?”, a one-man show based on the life of William Faulkner will be presented on Monday, November 11, 7 p.m., in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the UTC Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

Award-winning actor and writer John Maxwell has toured around the world with his very funny and deeply moving production.

The production includes recollections of Faulkner’s days in Hollywood writing screenplays for Clark Gable and Howard Harks, stories about his family that are both hilarious and touching, an amusing and highly insightful “Question/Answer” session with an imaginary English class, and much more. The production ends with a wonderful offering of the Nobel Prize acceptance speech Faulkner delivered at Stockholm. It’s a powerful evening of theatre, literature, entertainment and enlightenment.

In 1981, John Maxwell began touring with “Oh, Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write?” after premiering the play at New Stage Theatre in Jackson, Mississippi. He has performed at venues that include The Bottom Line (New York), The Smithsonian, Picolo Spoleto Festival, The Alliance Theatre, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and many others. He was honored to present the show at the Cultural Olympiad in Atlanta for an audience including nine Nobel Laureates and former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalyn.

Maxwell, who holds a master’s degree in theatre from the University of Mississippi, has been the recipient of a Tennessee Williams Scholarship to study playwriting at the Sewanee Writer’s Conference and is the 1992 recipient of the Susan B. Herron Playwriting Fellowship of the Mississippi Arts Commission.
