Please Pledge Your Support Today. We’ll Give You Something Extra.

Spring brings the promise of renewal and new growth, and that’s also true for WUTC, Chattanooga’s National Public Radio station. Starting on March 16, WUTC staff will be on the air reminding our listeners to renew their pledge to WUTC and asking listeners who’ve never given beforeto do so.  As a special incentive to give early in this membership drive, if you make a donation before March 16, your name will be entered twice in all the on-air giveaway drawings.

Thirty years ago, the idea of a full-service public radio station for the Chattanooga area was just a pipe dream.  That dream became a reality with the establishment of WUTC 88.1 FM. WUTC is home-grown, locally-supported public radio. The station’s ongoing success is made possible by generous folks who step up and become supporters. Through their financial gifts, WUTC is able to bring the region award-winning NPR and local news programs, an eclectic blend of music, and weekend entertainment broadcasts.

While these pledge drives somewhat interrupt listening pleasure, they are absolutely necessary to keeping WUTC on the air. NPR and other nationally-distributed programming costs just under $740,000 annually. The station’s Sustaining Membership program reduces the length of WUTC’s twice-yearly pledge drives by about 20 percent, but the remainder of our listener funding is raised during the on-air drives.

(Wondering what exactly a pledge drive is, and why WUTC does them?  More information is here.)

This spring, we continue to emphasize how fast and convenient it is to give online.  Our website has been updated to make it easier to use your mobile devices to give a one-time donation or become a Sustaining Member. Visitors to the WUTC homepage can just click on the Support WUTC button and follow the directions.

Instead of one large grand prize drawing, this year WUTC will have daily drawings for fun electronics and other prize packages.  Those who are current Sustaining Members are automatically entered twice in all drawings.

WUTC also is contacting those who’ve volunteered in the past to answer phones during the drive.  New volunteers are also welcome and can sign up by calling the station at 423-425-4756. Our volunteers have a lot of fun and are provided with a light breakfast and lunch plus snacks while they’re helping us out.

Got questions? Need help with online pledging? Want to volunteer? Call the station at 423-425-4756, Monday through Friday during business hours, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
