Southern Lit Alliance and Theology on Tap Host Discussion of Flannery O’Connor’s Prayer Journal

From a media release:

The Southern Lit Alliance and Theology on Tap will host a panel discussion of Flannery O’Connor’s A Prayer Journal on Tuesday, May 26 at 7 PM at the Camp House.

Come engage in a discussion of O’Connor’s deeply spiritual prayer journal, recently discovered among her papers in Georgia. Written between 1946 and 1947 while O’Connor was a student at the University of Iowa, A Prayer Journal is a rare glimpse into the private interior life of a great writer. It illustrates O’Connor’s relationship with the divine and shows how her literary desire was intertwined with her yearning for God. A Prayer Journal is the record of a brilliant young woman’s coming-of-age, a cry from the heart for grace, love, and art.

The panelists this evening include Professor John Grammer, director of the Sewanee School of Letters, Professor Robert MacSwain of the Sewanee School of Theology, and Jamie Quatro, best-selling author and contributing editor of the Oxford American.

The Camp House is located at 149 E. ML King Boulevard in downtown Chattanooga.
