Start It Up Episode 18: The Ins and Outs of Managing Employees

Dan Gilmore of Squire Strategies gives advice on how to manage employees and avoid the most common mistakes that business owners make.  Dan combines his knowledge as an attorney with practicality and common sense to help his clients take great care of their employees without creating undue liability.  The old adage about carpentry says, "Measure twice and cut once."  The same can be said about hiring and managing employees. It is always best to seek good counsel on the front end, rather than having to pay the cost later for ill-informed decisions.

Also on this episode, Larissa Lagria, Rebekah Marr, and Chris Dortch unveil a new web-based tool to help Chattanooga Film Festival attendees identify films they might enjoy seeing.  This tool was created by East Hamilton High School student Larissa and her teammates as part of the Mad, Bad, and Dangerous 24-Hour Generator.

Susanne Burnham was the Executive Producer of Start it Up from October of 2014 to August of 2015. She is a graduate of The Company Lab’s Accelerator. She is the Founder and CEO of Click Click Boom, a graduate of the University of Georgia and a U.S. Army Veteran (Desert Storm). She launched her career in the mobile tech industry in 2009, and in 2012 relocated to Chattanooga because of EPB’s fiber optic network and to participate in the City’s growth as a tech and startup hub.
