If you want to keep your game sharp, you have to keep practicing it. That is part of the idea behind the Summer Chess Camp that is being offered by the Mountain Education Foundation.
The Chess Clubs at Thrasher Elementary, Nolan Elementary and Signal Mountain Middle & High School have been busy with youngsters learning to play tournament chess and competing locally, regionally and nationally. Coach Bill Cheal teaches chess at the clubs in the public schools on Signal Mountain. The only type of chess he teaches is tournament chess to better prepare the kids to compete.
The Summer Chess Camp will be open to any child in rising 2nd through rising 6th grades. Chess Camp runs from July 14 through 18 from 9 am to 1 pm at Signal Mountain Middle & High School.
