The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Music Department presents the Wind Ensemble in concert on April 21, 2012 in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center on the campus.  The concert will feature guest performer Sherry Burt, a UTC alumna and member of the Air Force Band stationed  in California.  Other guest performers include high school students from the Tennessee All State Band.  The concert is free and open to the public.  The Honor Wind Ensemble performance begins at 5:00 pm.

La Paz is a nonprofit organization that works with the growing Latino community in the Chattanooga region to promote advocacy, education, and inclusion.  The fourth annual Sangria on the Southside on May 4th is a celebration of Latino culture and a fundraiser for La Paz.  The event will include a performance of flamenco dancing, music, salsa dancing and of course, sangria.   Sangria on the Southside will be held a

Scottie Goodman Summerlin is heading to Washington D.C. later this month as the Tennessee delegate for "Mom Congress." Parenting Magazine picked Summerlin for the education conference because of her involvement in the public school system in Tennessee. Summerlin talks about what the conference will be like and what Tennessee has to bring to the table.

The Chattanooga Zoo is celebrating its 75th anniversary.  In this segment, Marisa Ogles, the zoo's Director of Marketing & Communications, joins us to talk about zoo history--changes over the years, including the zoo's decline in the 1970s and modern revitalization.  We also get the details on 75 Days Of Fun (including Hug A Bunny Day), the big celebration leading up to the 75th birthday party on June 16th.

From April 13th to the 22nd, MakeWork will present the 10x10 Artist Showcase in Chattanooga as a part of the first annual Hatch Festival. According to MakeWork's Web site, the festival is hosting a "a 10 -day exhibition of 100 creative works. Streets, parking lots, parks, and abandoned buildings will become a medium to construct, innovate, and celebrate creativity." MakeWork's 10x10 will have showcases at Walnut Street Bridge, Ross' Landing, and Miller Plaza.

Dr. Irene Pepperberg can talk with parrots. Not just to them. She actually communicates with them. Pepperberg has taught African Gray Parrots to count, speak, and understand certain things. Her research has made her internationally known in the field of animal-human communication.

The Young Women's Leadership Academy Foundation will host Odyssey 2012: Engineering a Dream on noon Wednesday, April 18th at the Chattanooga Convention Center.  Special guests include the first women space shuttle pilot and commander Colonel Eileen Collins and NPR's Michele Norris.  Odyssey 2012 is an award luncheon for the Supernova Award honoring local women professionals in the fields of science, engineering, technology and mathematics.  Outstanding students from the

Frog and toad populations are in decline around the world, and scientists in the U.S. rely on regular citizens to help keep track of population changes around the country. The Chattanooga Zoo is hosting a training session for people to learn how to identify local frogs and report their findings. Rick Jackson, who works with frogs at the zoo, explains what the training will be like and gives some on-air pointers for identifying local frogs.

The Senior Services department of the Partnership for Families Children and Adults is raising awareness of elder abuse through the SARAH Project.  Safety And Resources And Help is the name of the project and in addition to pubic awareness the project is educating law enforcement officers on the signs of elder abuse.  Future plans include awareness programs for judges as well as supporting legislation to protect elders.  The Senior Services department

The Opera Theater Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will present Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers March 29 through 31 at the Roland Hays Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center.  The Thursday March 29th dress rehearsal performance provides a special discount for students to attend this working rehearsal.  All performances begin at 7:30 pm.  Tickets available at the door or by calling 423-425-4269.

From now until April 13th, you can visit the Augusta R. Kolwyck Library at Chattanooga State Community College and view a local homeless art exhibit. It features charcoal and oil portraits, fine knitting, and hand-made jewelry. The exhibit comes from Hart Gallery Tennessee, a local nonprofit gallery dedicated to homeless and non-traditional artists.
