Free Lunch for Tuesday, July 22
By Sean Phipps
Chattanooga, TN – The Free Lunch for Tuesday, July 22 will be a special interview with the legendary rock duo Steely Dan. The interview is titled One Hour Sale! and documents the making of Steely Dan's latest release on Reprise Records, Everything Must Go .
Founding members of Steely Dan, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, have always had a knack for pushing the limits of music to the very edge of possibility. Their latest album goes beyond that. Everything Must Go is an album chock full of satirical lyrics and groovy melodies that fans of The Dan have come to know and love.
In this candid interview, both Becker and Fagen recall the pressures of making an album after winning multiple grammys for their last album Two Against Nature . Producer and interviewer Jody Denberg examines several of the songs from Everything Must Go with the group. And specifically, Walter Becker's role on Slang of Ages singing!
Denberg and the band also discuss Steely Dan's diverse fan base and the role of satire in the band's music. Fagen and Becker also recount their childhood and introduction into the world of music.
Running at a little over and hour (62:19), One Hour Sale is an exciting look into one of the most influential and important bands to ever grace the airwaves. Naturally, we're offering it to you as a Free Lunch on Tuesday, July 22. The interview will begin after the news at approximately 12:06 p.m.
