League of Women Voters Holds Organizational Meeting Feb. 23

The Chattanooga members-at-large Unit of the League of Women Voters of Tennessee (LWVTN) will hold an informational meeting for anyone, male or female, interested in joining the local LWV on Monday, Feb. 23, at the Downtown Library.

Said Sue Bredensteiner, editor of the LWVTN’s quarterly publication, “Particularly in times of sharp partisanship, the League of Women Voters is so important because of its history and stature as a nonpartisan organization, which studies issues, finds consensus around those issues, and presents educational materials and forums about those issues backed by factual data. The League continues to build and strengthen relationships in both parties, educate legislators, and shares factual data and talking points with the community at large as well as with lawmakers.”

Michele Brandenburg of the LWV Oakridge Unit noted, "LWVTN is pleased citizens of the Chattanooga area are interested in having an active local League again."

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. Efforts are currently being made to reestablish a Chattanooga Local League. Membership applications will be available at the meeting.
