Local Artists Selected for M.L. King District Mural

From a media release:

Public Art Chattanooga is pleased to announce the local artists who have been selected to work as apprentices on a monumental mural in the M.L. King District, which will revitalize the neighborhood and illustrate its important story and history. Nationally recognized muralist Meg Saligman, who has been commissioned to create the mural, has selected 7 local artists to assist her with the project.

“Meg Saligman Studios is so very excited to welcome this fantastic group of local Chattanooga artists onto our mural crew.  It is a talented and diverse team, and each artist will bring a unique set of skills and perspectives.  Chattanooga has such a vibrant and historic arts scene, and we are honored to help perpetuate that culture,” said Saligman.

33 artists applied to work with Saligman, and 7 local artists were chosen for the full-time and part-time positions:

Abdul Ahmad
Holly Berrie Elizondo
Anna Carll
Rondell Crier
Shaun LaRose
Mercedes Llanos
Anier Reina

The artists’ work on this transformative mural will help tell the community’s story through the collaborative process and will contribute to renewal of the M.L. King District. The project is possible through a partnership with AT&T and generous funding from the Benwood and Lyndhurst Foundations.

The public is still encouraged to give input for the mural through an online questionnaire at http://www.chattanooga.gov/public-art/.
