UPDATE: The contest is over.  Congratulations to our winner, Ryan Darling!

More information about Glass's lecture is here.

The event is free & open to the public.

Ira Glass, host of This American Life, is coming to Chattanooga on April 7th for the George T. Hunter Lecture Series.  With that in mind, WUTC is having a contest.  Tell us your best true story about a road trip and you could win tickets to a special reception with Ira Glass.

WUTC SEEKS STORYTELLERS.  NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.  MUST LOVE THIS AMERICAN LIFE.

For years, you’ve listened to great stories on WUTC 88.1 FM, Chattanooga’s NPR affiliate.  Shows like This American Life (airing Sundays at 7 p.m. on WUTC 88.1 FM) and Around and About Chattanooga (airing weekdays at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.) bring you true tales told well—funny stories, dramatic stories, sometimes even heartbreaking stories.

Now WUTC is giving you a chance to tell your story.  We’re having a contest in honor of Ira Glass’s visit to Chattanooga April 7th for the George T. Hunter Lecture series.  Submit a story idea to us, and you could tell your story on the radio and attend a special reception with Ira Glass at the Tivoli prior to his April 7th Lecture.

WHAT KIND OF STORIES?

WUTC is looking for the same kind of stories that appear on This American Life—stories with emotion, stories with surprises, and stories that make listeners sit up and pay attention.

Our theme is Road Trips.

Your story must be:

1.     A true tale told well

2.     Something that personally happened to you

3.     A story you can tell us in about ten or fifteen minutes

4.     Related to our theme, Road Trips

HOW DO I ENTER?

Type up a short synopsis of your story and e-mail it to Mike-Miller@utc.edu.  Use ROAD TRIP STORY as the subject line.  The synopsis must be 500 words or less.

Producers from WUTC’s Around and About Chattanooga will select one winner—we’ll pick the synopsis that we believe will best serve as the basis of a radio story.

The deadline is March 22nd 2013.

The winner must visit WUTC’s studios in downtown Chattanooga between 3/23/2013 and 3/29/2013 and record his or her story.  If the winner is unable to fulfill that requirement, WUTC reserves the right to select another winner.

WHAT DO I GET IF I WIN?

The fame and glory of telling your story on the radio, plus two tickets to a special reception with Ira Glass at the Tivoli prior to his April 7th  appearance for the George T. Hunter lecture series, sponsored by the Benwood Foundation and UTC.

WHAT IF I DON’T WIN?

Even if you’re not selected as the winner of this contest, WUTC may contact you in the future and give you a chance to tell your story on-air.
