Better Block Glass Street
Transforming Glass Street from the outside in
Better Block Glass Street is working with neighbors and volunteers to invigorate a community. The Glass House Collective has been working with businesses and residents near the intersection of Glass Street and North Chamberlain Avenue to revitalize the area.
Working with artists, architects and willing volunteers is the backbone of the project. When combined with material and professional donations these people can completely change the future of their neighborhood. On Saturday February 23, 2013 from 11 AM to 5 PM Better Block Glass Street will unveil the new brand for the area with a fresh look and new business. Some of the old store fronts at the intersection have been vacant for years but this weekend new opportunities will be found within those walls.
Better Block Glass Street has a strong focus on public art. There will be new murals bringing color to the empty brick walls and new banners lining the street. Rise Up Chattanooga will be completed at Better Block with hundreds of donated ladders combined to form a giant sculpture representing the dreams and hopes of the community. There will be opportunities to help create murals and design walkways for intersections at Better Block.
There will be plenty of activities for the entire family including children's activities throughout the day. You can see a complete schedule of events online.
