Chattanooga

The new school year is underway in Hamilton County. A new school superintendent, Dr, Bryan Johnson, the fourth person to hold the office since the city and county schools merged in 1997, has also begun working to help heal a school system many people feel is broken. Molly Gardner plans to fly to Nairobi, Kenya this summer to meet women who create goods for the fair-trade nonprofit Amani ya Juu, which helps refugee women earn a living by creating clothing and other goods.

Gardner, a Chattanooga photographer and artist, works as the event coordinator for the Amani distribution center here in Chattanooga.

Theater For The New South is performing Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's Boom, starting November 2nd at the Rivoli Art Mill in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  It's a sci-fi comedy involving an Earth-destroying comet, an awkward attempt at repopulating the world, and weirdly prescient fish.
